While the primary thrill of Microsoft Flight Simulator lies in the actual flying, seeing the views is arguably one of the most interesting ways to spend some time in the simulator. Each aircraft in MSFS comes with a default number of views that are available for users to switch to, but did you know you can set up your own custom views?
This is an ability that often goes underappreciated. Unique perspectives from each airplane offer simmers a new level of immersion during flight, especially during periods of lighter cockpit workload. Many might not be aware of this capability, or might find the process of creating their own views too cumbersome. If you fall into this category, there’s a free download that might be just for you: it introduces preset custom views for all default airplanes, plus many of the most popular third-party ones!
The aptly titled “Custom Views for Almost Every Airplane” is a project by developer lunoi. He enjoys spending his time creating custom views for all the planes he owns and decided to share his work with the community. He regularly updates his offering to include new airplanes as they’re released on the platform.
The custom camera configurations are consistent across all aircraft and typically include the following views:
Custom Camera 0: Electronic Flight Bag, if available
Custom Camera 1: Left wing view
Custom Camera 2: Straight view above instrument panel
Custom Camera 3: Right wing view
Custom Camera 4: Left wing view
Custom Camera 5: Instrument view
Custom Camera 6: Right wing view
Custom Camera 7: Cockpit overview (maximizing cockpit coverage without compromising aesthetics)
Custom Camera 8: Overhead panel, if available
Custom Camera 9: Copilot view
Each of these views can be activated using the keyboard shortcuts ALT+1, ALT+2, ALT+3, and so on.
Installing the mod is straightforward, albeit a little different from the standard procedure for Microsoft Flight Simulator. Instead of placing the mod’s folder in the Community Folder, you need to locate your SimObjects folder in AppData. The developer provides detailed instructions on finding this folder for various installation versions.
Once installed, you’ll gain access to a wide array of captivating views across an extensive list of aircraft. In addition to all default planes, this mod extends custom views to many popular third-party planes such as the CRJ, numerous Carenado models, the Fenix A320, PMDG 737, Just Flight’s 146 and PA28, and more.
